Download Qnect release notes history

Updated on November 8th 2022

I will be testing the viability of only making Qnect official releases available over QDN. It would be a great help if everyone who downloads these releases also follows this QDN website. This will make the website and the installation files readily available for everyone interested in participating.

Qnect is currently in the beta stage, if you are interested in testing the app you can download the installation file for your platform here. The platforms which are currently supported are Linux and Android. Support for Windows will come at a later time. For any platforms that are not natively supported like Mac, Iphone or certain Linux operating systems the app will be available as a (progressive) web app at a later date.

Qnect should work on any Android device with Android 5.0 or higher (SDK 21). The installation file for Android (qnect.apk) is 75 Mb in size, which is quite large for an APK file. This is because the APK is a debug build as well as a flat build, which is a package that contains the builds for all possible Android device architectures which simplifies the installation for the end user since you won't have to know what architecture your device is running on. In the future it might be possible to shrink the size of the APK by releasing a release build with separate files for each architecture.

Qnect has been tested on Linux Mint 20.3 on which it works. It has also been tested on Qortal's torchieMATE kernell on which it does not yet work. Different machines and operating systems use different architectures which are not always compatible with the final build of a software package, as testers you can play an important role and can provide feedback on what works and what doesn't. The Linux build contains an executable file called 'qnect' which can be double clicked to run the app, if the app doesn't run after double clicking this file, try giving the 'qnect'file permession to run as an executable. If it still doesn't work it is most likely due to incompatibility with the architecture that your system is running on. For those cases Qnect will be available as a web app at a later date.
