Compare QDN to Existing Hosting Options on The Internet
Security
How Much Effort is Necessary for 'Security'?
On QDN you do not have to be concerned about ANY of the traditional 'internet security' concerns. From the time you publish your site or app, until you decide yourself to remove the content, everything on QDN is 100% SECURE. Data cannot be 'hacked' or modified by anyone other than the name owner (or groups in the future) so you can be certain that what you published, is what will be displayed to your clients/users/customers.
Only the owner of a name (or groups or group admins in the future with 'group-controlled data') can modify data on a name. It is that simple. If anyone else attempts to modify the data, it will be denied by consensus as they do not have the rights.
No longer will you need to pay attention to 'dependencies' and 'security vulnerabilities'.
Hosting
What is the Difference with Hosting?
On QDN, there is no need to pay for a 'web host' or a 'server'. The 'hosting' is done on the distributed decentralized blockchain-secured network for NO additional fees. Literally just publish the content and it becomes accessible.
On the Internet you have to have a company to provide a server for you, which means continual fees or adds on the page for free options. This is not necessary for QDN, and neither are the fees!
Every new user that accesses your content will provide another redundant copy of your data for you. No more worries about 'backups' unless you wish to maintain the older versions of your data, (and you can do that with QDN private data in the future.)
Accessibility
How Will my Site or Application be Accessible?
QDN applications and websites are accessible in the same fashion as websites on 'The Internet' as well as direct accessibility through the Qortal UI from all Qortal Users.
Your site is also automatically accessible through any public gateway such as https://qortal.link/crowetic - but with your name after the slash.
There is no such thing as a QDN website or application being 'down'. Once it is published, it is always accessible.
Publishing your Content/Website/App
How Difficult is QDN to Use?
With all of the benefits that QDN provides, you would assume that it would be difficult to make function, right? Nothing could be further from the truth, in fact with the upcoming release of Q-Blog web builder design tool, publishing on QDN has never been simpler!
Simply build a website or application in a local folder, zip the folder, and publish to QDN through the Qortal UI.
Internet Hosting on the left
QDN on the right
On the internet you have to constantly be concerned about potential hacks, stay completely up to date with new threats, and constantly stay vigilant to protect your webserver in many ways. If you do not, it could mean complete destruction of your digital presence.
When hosting on the internet you have to add and modify firewall entries if you want your server and application to be secure from outside access. If you do not, a multitude of potential breaches and issues could take place. Even complete unauthorized control of your server.
If you want to have more than one copy of your data (which is of course standard practice for a web-based service) you need to manage your own backups, keep your own redundant copies of data, and run multiple different servers to make sure this takes place. Configuring all of this requires someone with a large amount of experience if it is going to be useful in any way.
Then even if you DO configure this setup, you have to manually sync the data across the multiple servers, and manually control which copy is accessed when users access your application.
Data on QDN is secured by the Qortal Blockchain (distributed database) and cannot be modified by anyone other than the name owner (and groups in the future)
Everything pubished on QDN is by default accessible to everyone on Qortal, by way of the name only. There is no such thing as ports to allow access to, or firewalls to configure. No need to configure 'SSL' or anything else in front of your published website or application.
Not only is there no such thing as 'servers' on QDN, but the data on QDN is by default completely redundant. Every 'data supernode' on the network hosts a copy of your application or website by default, along with every new user or follower you obtain that runs a Qortal node. Your data continually gets more redundant. Not only that, but every new copy of your data, makes the next access that much faster, by allowing another location to obtain it.
There is literally no other way to modify data on a name, other than owning that name. It's that simple. With the blockchain authentication and security layer, only the owner of the account's private key that owns the name, can modify the data on the name. If you are not the owner, then you cannot modify the data. Any attempt by any other to modify the data will be rejected by network consensus.
